February 7th Meeting Minutes
Collegiate 4-H Minutes
February 7, 2006
The first Collegiate 4-H meeting of the semester was called to order at 8:41 p.m. by Heather Yerby. Old and New Business were discussed over dinner at Olive Garden.
The first item discussed was the club’s logo, which will appear on t-shirts and polos. Suggestions to change the logo, such as to make it smaller or more colorful, are welcome. It is encouraged that the emblem be modified before it is printed on shirts.
Brainstorming for service project and fundraising ideas then commenced. The club chose a service project which entails stuffing sockies (socks found at shoe stores to try on shoes) to make “horse ear plugs.” These ear plugs are then placed into a bag along with a checklist of items which should be kept in a horse trailer in case of emergency. Club members plan to distribute these kits at Area and State 4-H horse shows. Fundraising ideas include selling horse cookies at these same horse shows, a bake sale, or a car wash. Further information about these events will be discussed at the next meeting, or communicated to members via email.
If anyone is interested in being a part of the National 4-H web team, more information can be obtained at the website http://www.geocities.com/src4h/webteam.
In order to be recognized as an official UF student organization, 4-H must submit a copy of its Constitution. Mary will read through a copy of the Constitution, checking for mistakes, before submitting it to UF. Becoming an officially recognized organization will increase opportunities for 4-H to receive funding and improve publicity.
There will be a Civic Engagement Conference at UF during the weekend of February 24-26. The club will sponsor any members who wish to attend. For more information, please contact Kate Fogarty (kfogarty@ufl.edu).
A training session for those who wish to become a judge for either Youth Fair Exhibits or Alachua County Events (or both) will take place on February 27, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Civitan in Gainesville. Fair Exhibit judging will be on March 4, and County Events is April 1.
The final announcement was that counselors are needed for a family camp, which is affiliated with Operation Military Kids and 4-H, from March 24-27, 2006. If you are interested or would like more information, please email Bill Heltemes, the Alachua County 4-H Agent, at WRH@alahua.fl.us.
The next meeting will be March 7, 2006 at a location to be announced.
Respectfully submitted,
Molly Joustra
Collegiate 4-H Secretary
