Curriculum Committee
The CALS Curriculum Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters relating to the academic programs of IFAS and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation. Curriculum matters relating to the School of Natural Resources and Environment are administered by the SNRE Advisory Board.
The committee's primary responsibility is to review all new course proposals and curriculum changes recommended by the academic units within the College and to make recommendations regarding those matters to the Dean and the faculty. The Curriculum Committee has approval authority on behalf of the faculty on curriculum matters, including course and degree proposals.
Other responsibilities include:
- Review and make recommendations regarding the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs
- Identify issues related to academic programs and make recommendations to the Dean and faculty
- Review course enrollments and make recommendations regarding the discontinuance of course offerings
- Review undergraduate and graduate enrollments and make recommendations regarding enrollment targets
- Report annually to the faculty of the College.
Membership on the Curriculum Committee includes one representative from each department and school of the College, selected by faculty within each respective department/school. Terms begin on the first day of fall semester. Members serve a two-year term and may be re-appointed once. Vacancies are filled by the department/school in which the vacancy occurs. The committee elects its chair during Spring semester for the following year.
The Associate Deans of the College serve as ex officio non-voting members of the committee. One undergraduate and one graduate student member will be appointed by the Dean to serve a one-year term as voting members.
For this implementation year, departments will elect their representatives no later than April 1, 2007.
Undergraduate Student Awards and Scholarships
The CALS Undergraduate Student Awards and Scholarship Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to student awards and scholarships for undergraduate students in the College, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation. Students enrolled in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and SNRE are also considered for scholarships and awards.
The committee's primary responsibility is to review criteria and processes related to selection, assist with encouraging participation, and make selection recommendations for awards. In addition, the committee should promote the participation of CALS students in University and national awards and scholarships.
The committee specifically administers the following programs on behalf of the Dean:
- E. T. York Medal of Excellence
- J. Wayne Reitz Medal
- Larry J. Connor Medal
- CALS Alumni and Friends Award
- CALS Undergraduate Academic Scholarships
The committee reports annually to the faculty of the College. Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. Two undergraduate students will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms as voting members. The Associate Dean responsible for undergraduate programs and the Director of Student Development serve as ex officio non-voting members of the committee.
Graduate Student Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships
The CALS Graduate Student Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to student awards, scholarships and fellowships for graduate students in the College, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation. Students enrolled in SNRE are also considered for awards.
The committee's primary responsibility is to review criteria and processes related to selection, assist with encouraging participation, and make recommendations for awards. In addition, the committee should promote the participation of CALS students in University and national awards, scholarships and fellowships.
The committee specifically administers the following programs on behalf of the Dean:
- James Davidson Graduate Travel Scholarship
- Harold E. Kendall, Sr. Graduate Endowed Scholarship
- Herlong Endowed Graduate Scholarship
- Agricultural Women and Vam C. York Graduate Scholarships
- Jack L. Fry Graduate Teaching Award
- UF Alumni Awards
- Davis Fellowship (requires specific membership on selection committee)
The committee may also monitor involvement in the following programs which are administered by UF Research and Graduate Programs:
- Graduate Student Council Travel Grant
- Research and Graduate Programs Travel Grant

Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. Two graduate students will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms as voting members.
Teaching Enhancement and Faculty Recognition
The CALS Teaching Enhancement and Faculty Recognition Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to teaching enhancement programs and faculty teaching and advising awards in the College, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation.
The committee's primary responsibilities including the following:
- Planning, implementing and evaluating the annual Teaching Enhancement Symposium
- Serving as the advisory committee to the CALS Teaching Resources Center
- CALS and UF Teaching and Advising Awards
- CALS and UF Undergraduate Advising Award
- CALS and UF Undergraduate Teaching Award
- CALS and UF Graduate Teaching/Advising Award
- UF Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award
- Promoting participation in national awards programs including USDA and NACTA

Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. One undergraduate student and one graduate student will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms as voting members.
Distance Education Advisory
The CALS Distance Education Advisory Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to credit-generating instructional programs that utilize distance delivery technology within the College, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation, on the UF campus and each of the IFAS Research and Education Centers.
The committee's primary responsibilities include:
- Make recommendations to the Associate Dean concerning new DE courses/programs
- Make recommendations to the Associate Dean and IFAS Communication concerning the nature, quantity and availability of resources for DE course development and delivery
- Review off-campus courses/programs as needed and make recommendations for addition, deletion or modification
- Identify grant opportunities to enhance CALS DE programs with appropriate faculty teams for proposal development
- Review the CALS DE website annually and make recommendations for improvement

Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. One undergraduate student and one graduate student enrolled through a Research and Education Center will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms as voting members.
International Education Committee
The CALS International Education Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to international academic programs for CALS students and faculty and for foreign students and faculty enrolled in academic programs of the College.
The committee's primary responsibilities include:
- Make recommendations to the Associate Dean concerning new study abroad courses/programs
- Review and prioritize funding requests for study abroad and international academic course/program development
- Review study abroad course/program offerings periodically and make recommendations for addition, deletion or modification
- Review CALS Global Gators website annually and make recommendations for improvement
- Identify granting agencies to fund international education projects, grant opportunities to enhance CALS international academic programs, and appropriate faculty teams for proposal development.

Student Development Advisory
The CALS Student Development Advisory Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to student leadership development and career resources within the College, including the School of Forest Resources and Conservation.
The committee's primary responsibilities include:
- Advise the Director of Student Development regarding student development programming
- Advise the Director regarding student internship and career resources opportunities
The committee reports annually to the faculty of the College. The Director of Student Development serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the committee. Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. Two undergraduate students and one graduate student will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms as voting members.
Alumni and Career Resources
The CALS Alumni and Career Resources Committee is advisory to the Dean in matters related to the collaboration between the College and the CALS Alumni and Friends.
The committee's primary responsibilities include:
- Coordinate alumni and career services efforts between the College and the units
- Generate unit support of and participation in CALS alumni and career services events
The committee reports annually to the faculty of the College. The Director of Alumni and Career Services serves as an ex-officio non-voting member of the committee. Members of the committee are appointed by the Dean. One undergraduate student and one graduate student will be appointed by the Dean to serve one-year terms.
Honors Council
The CALS Honors Council is advisory to the Dean in matters related to the CALS Upper Division Honors Program.
The council's primary responsibilities include:
- Work cooperatively with the CALS Honors Student Advisory Board and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for program enhancement
