Statewide Programs

Several CALS majors are offered at locations outside of Gainesville. The purpose of these statewide programs is to reach place-bound students  - those who wish to enroll in one of the unique programs CALS offers without moving to Gainesville and giving up a job or family responsibilities. The academic standards, curriculum, and student privileges within the statewide programs are exactly the same as those on the Gainesville campus. Transcripts and diplomas are identical to those earned in Gainesville.

Statewide program locations include Apopka, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Pierce, Milton and Plant City. (Click here for a map of locations). They are located at UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers (RECs), and work in conjunction with nearby community colleges. The first 2 years of courses are taken at a community college, and the last 2 years are taken at the UF/IFAS Research and Education Center.

Classes are scheduled primarily in the evenings to accommodate the schedules of those that work full-time. While most classes are taught live, some classes are offered online or via distance learning technologies to enhance flexibility and minimize travel to the Research and Education Centers. Class size is small, and students develop close working relationships with the faculty, staff, and other students. Each Research and Education center has a unique learning environment, which includes libraries, computer facilities, student organizations, and excellent field and laboratory facilities.
